Rita Angus, with sketchbook in hand, was a familiar sight in Thorndon, Wellington. She based this painting on a sketch she made in Tinakori Road, looking towards a group of houses on Glenbervie Terrace.

Rita Angus once told a critic, ‘I take quite a lot of trouble with composition’ – and this painting reflects that. The brilliant blue sky accentuates the solid forms of the clouds. These shapes contrast with the brightly coloured, angular houses.
