This image of protective motherhood is a portrait of Rita Angus’s sister Jean Jones with her first child, Anton.
Rita doted on Anton and had given him the toy rabbit lying on the floor. On the wall behind Jean is an image of a Rita Angus painting – a portrait of Jean’s husband, Fred Jones. This painting is displayed to your left.
