The artist addresses the loss of a holistic understanding of the world caused by a separation of moral, scientific, and aesthetic realms. This idea is reflected by the tension in the artwork between the sky, the iceberg, and the sea.

The artist states, ‘Everything in this work seems fragile. Paint seems both futile and meaningful. Either way, it seems an appropriate vehicle or gesture by which to engage an inquiry about gains and losses.’
