Through these works, the artist is ‘weaving’ glass threads to promote healing. In the Mesoamerican cosmology, the universe is made up of filaments or cords. The job of the day-keepers (observers of the ancient 260-day Mesoamerican calendar), or shamans, is to unravel these cords when they tangle – bringing harmony to humanity, the world, and the cosmos.
This ancient philosophy resonates with the contemporary Superstring Theory, in which the fabric of space tears and repairs itself. The drawing and colour on the boards create a blueprint for the cooling and balancing of an overheated earth.
