Breathing is Free: 12,756.3 tracks the artist as he attempts to run the distance of 12,756.3 kilometres (the diameter of the earth) – the shortest distance to the other side of the planet. GPS (Global Positioning System) data of the run is transferred onto aerial photographs of cities, drawing paths over the infrastructure of the land. The work addresses our environment and pollution from the most fundamental level – we must be able to breathe to exist.

This ongoing project is the most recent episode of Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba’s ‘Memorial Project’ series, which he began in 2001. It has been created in 10 different cities in Asia and Europe.
