The terrestrial vertebrate collection contains about 6,000 lots of reptiles and amphibians from the New Zealand mainland and offshore islands, as well as some fossil marine reptiles and foreign specimens. Marine turtles and snakes are also included in this collection - although they do not come ashore to breed in New Zealand, specimens are frequently found in northern waters.
