Overview

Water jugs like this one were produced by Crown Lynn, one of New Zealand's most well-known companies, in the 1950s and 1960s. They were designed specifically for domestic refrigerators, which became much more affordable, and hence common, post-war.

This ceramic jug has 'Kelvinator' transferred in gold on each side, referring to the popular refrigerator brand. It has a flat lid, and a handle with a scalloped hand grip. On the base is a crown symbol, a small star, and a 'Crown Lynn New Zealand' stamp.
