Overview
This medal was specially made by George White (1846-1925), a Wellington silversmith, for W.T. Grundy of the Executive to wear during the Wellington Patriotic Society's Queen's Carnival in June 1915.
Queen Carnivals involved young women competing to raise money; whoever raised the most was crowned 'Queen'. Fund-raising events were very popular home front activities during the First World War. People could support the men fighting overseas by organising events to collect money for patriotic purposes, such as gifts for troops in the front line or 'comforts' for wounded men.
