Mother and Child

With its flat, simplified form and clean lines, Charles Wheeler’s sculpture offers a distinctively modern take on the traditional subject of the Madonna and Child. The visible chisel marks have not been smoothed away, creating an unusual surface texture that reveals the artist’s technique.

The sculpture is reminiscent of earlier works by Wheeler in which he depicted his wife, Muriel, and their baby son, Robin.
