Overview
Bone Stone Shell: Paul Annear
Paul Annear’s early work was in silver, but a trip to the South Island’s West Coast in 1986 led him to pounamu (greenstone). ‘Jade is the material that dominates my work at this time,’ he wrote in his Bone Stone Shell submission.
Annear’s work was inspired by ‘an imagined neolithic culture’ rather than specifically Māori forms. The strongly geometric shapes are derived from adzes, gouges, and arrowheads
