Overview
Copy by the Berry studio of an original print by Frank Sutcliffe of Whitby, Yorkshire. The photograph shows an elderly man and woman, seated. The persons depicted are Edward and Sarah Corner of Whitby, the parents of Edward Charles Corner who married Mary Elizabeth Taylor at Petone in 1890. Edward Corner was born in 1825 and died in 1913. Sarah Watson was born in 1830 and died in 1905. The Corner family had been long established in the Whitby area, since at least the 17th century, as farmers. Edward was also a farmer as well as amongst other things a ship-owner and timber merchant. The original portrait was taken to commemorate Edward and Sarah's golden wedding anniversary in 1901.
