Overview
Without its title, this small jewel of a painting could be a completely abstract composition. Douglas MacDiarmid has broken Wellington’s Miramar peninsula down into a series of interlocking shapes and colours. A horizontal line divides land from sea.
Point Halswell is the site of one of the Wellington harbour’s lighthouses – the two triangles that cut through the composition suggest shafts of light, stretching out across the bay.
