Overview

This teapot, entitled Crown Lynn Whieldon, is made by Richard Stratton, a Wellington based potter whose practice is informed by an extensive knowledge of the history of ceramics, as well as popular culture and current events.

The teapot is from a series entitled Structures of Stricture in which Stratton combined a range of stylistic references. This teapot is inspired by the work of Thomas Whieldon (1719–95), an 18th century English potter. The body of the teapot features a painterly interpretation of Crown Lynn’s Roydon Tam O’Shanter pattern, which Stratton recalled from his childhood. Roydon was one of Crown Lynn's subsidary brands, and was sold through the McKenzies chain store.
