Overview
This cushion cover was made by disabled WWI serviceman, Gunner William Pauling.
Embroidery was an activity undertaken by sick and wounded soldiers while they were confined to bed in hospital. It was often referred to as lap work or fancy work. It was one of the activities undertaken as curative threrapy. Hospital staff encouraged men to do these therapeutic actitvities as it kept them busy and exercised muscles.
