Overview

The 6th (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles Regiment was formed in 1911 from mounted Volunteer units in the Manawatu region.

 

The Regiment's badge shows a Crown, symbolising loyalty to the monarch, and fern leaves symbolising  New Zealand.

 

The Regiment's motto ‘He kawau maro’ means ‘Unyielding as the kawau, or shag’ (marine bird renowned for eating very large prey) and is also an arrowhead formation in Maori war strategy
