Overview
Bronze specimen of the Gold Medal awarded to awarded to Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker by the Linnean Society in 1898. Hooker was awarded the medal to mark the completion of his botanical survey of India. His expedition in India and the Himalayas lasted for 3 years from 1847 – 1851, from which Hooker brought back 7000 plant specimens.
The obverse of the medal shows a profile of Hooker, flanked by the inscriptions "J.D.H." and "AET LXXX" [i.e. “Joseph Dalton Hooker aged 80."] Text on the reverse records the presentation to Hooker.
