About Collections Online
Collections Online provides access to information about more than 400,000 objects and specimens in Te Papa's collections, with over 120,000 illustrated with images.
The natural science collections include specimens of Plants, Birds, Crustacea, Fish, Fossil vertebrates, Insects, spiders and allies, Marine mammals, Molluscs, Reptiles and amphibians.
The cultural history collections span Archives, Art, New Zealand History, Photography, Pacific cultures and Taonga Māori.
Many records are full of rich contextual text, have multiple images and links addition external content. Other records are more modest, reflecting the size of the collection and the historical nature of much of the museum's documentation. Not all object records have images as they are yet to be digitised, or may require licensing from original copyright holders; both of which are ongoing pieces of work.
It's also possible to use People, Places, Categories to browse the collection, for example to see all the objects related to Captain Cook, Rita Angus or Crown Lynn Potteries, all the items related to Napier, or all objects related to the subject Childhood & youth. Check the right hand side of the page for useful links.
